If the upstairs runs hot, the room over the garage won't warm up or the power bill keeps climbing, the house is usually short on insulation or leaking air. Retrofit insulation in Jerome, ID adds insulation to the attic, walls, floors, crawl spaces and basement rim joists, the framing that sits on the foundation, and seals the gaps air sneaks through.

The price turns on the attic's size, how many inches are already up there, how old the house is, whether the walls get filled and what has to be fixed first, like wet old insulation or tired wiring. Those fixes and any permit also set the schedule, and my estimate lists what comes first and why.

You can count on seeing what's in your attic before we add a thing, so call (208) 544-9045 and I'll come take a look.

What retrofit insulation covers in your house

Every house is already partway insulated, so we start from what's up there and in the walls, then add what's missing in the order your house needs it.

  • Attic floors

We top up your attic insulation with blown-in fill, loose insulation blown through a hose, keeping the edges as deep as the middle and the eave vents open.

  • Finished walls

Finished walls usually get drill and fill, small holes near the top of each cavity that get packed with blown-in insulation and patched. The questions below cover inside versus outside.

  • Foam where ducts run

Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates. Sealing gaps and topping up loose fill usually wins, unless your ducts run through the attic, where spray foam insulation pays off.

Thick cream closed-cell foam covers a commercial ceiling around metal ducts and supports.

Why homeowners pick Steady Jerome Spray Foam Insulationfor retrofits done in order

Working with us starts with me in your attic or crawl space, explaining what I see before anyone touches a thing. Satisfaction guaranteed.

  • I come out and look myself

The person who writes your estimate is me, after going through the attic or crawl space with you and answering whatever you want to ask.

  • Fixes come before insulation

Insulation laid over a leak, a wet spot or bad wiring just hides the problem, so those go to the top of the list and get handled first.

  • You'll understand your own house

I explain what I'm seeing and why it matters, so you can judge our work, and the next contractor's too. Questions are the point, not an interruption.

  • Licensed and insured, easy to check

We're licensed and insured. Anyone can look up formal actions against registered contractors on the Idaho Contractors Board's public search, and I'd rather you did.

  • Back at this work since 2021

I ran insulation jobs when I was younger, left the trade for years and came back in 2021 because I missed doing this work carefully.

  4. The work, in order

Once the fixes on the list are done, our own installers seal the gaps and add the insulation, then clean up behind themselves before they leave.

  5. Walkthrough with me

I check the work and walk the finished job with you, so you can see the depth, the sealed gaps and the open vents for yourself.

Retrofit insulation questions

How much does retrofit insulation cost in Jerome, ID?

Across the US, installing blown-in attic insulation usually runs about $4 to $7.50 per square foot, and that's a national figure for attic work, not our price. Your number moves with the attic's size, what's already up there, the sealing and fixes that come first and whether walls get filled. I'll give you your own figure in the estimate once I've seen the house.

Can I get free insulation through Idaho Power in Jerome County?

Some homes can. Idaho Power says low- and near low-income customers in electrically heated homes may get free upgrades worth up to $6,000, which may include insulation, and a certified weatherization auditor decides what a home qualifies for. For Jerome County, the utility lists South Central Community Action Partnership at 208-733-9354.

Why do you seal air leaks before adding insulation?

Because fiberglass and cellulose slow heat but don't stop air, so an open gap blows right through the new layer. We close the gaps around light fixtures, duct boots where the ducts meet the ceiling, wiring, pipes and flues first, in the same job. They're easy to reach while the attic floor is open and miserable to find once they're buried.

Is it better to insulate existing walls from inside or outside?

Going in from inside leaves the outside of the wall alone, which is why I lean that way when the rooms are easy to work in. Drilling from outside breaks the wall's drainage plane, the weather layer behind the siding, if it has one, so that layer then has to be patched or fully replaced. If your house was built before 1980, you should be aware of lead safety rules, depending on how much of the inside or outside surface the work disturbs.

How do I know if my old attic insulation can be covered?

It can be covered once it's dry, clean and sitting over safe wiring, so that's what I check first. Live knob and tube wiring, the old porcelain-knob kind, has to be replaced or properly boxed before insulation goes over it, and vermiculite, a pebbly gray-brown fill that may contain asbestos, stops the job until it's dealt with. Insulation that's been soaked or is full of droppings comes out, because new material on top just hides the problem.

How long does it take to add insulation to an existing house?

Most of the schedule turns on what comes before the insulation, not the insulation itself. Clearing stored items, sealing leaks and any fixes on the list take the time, and a permit adds its own wait when the job needs one. I'll tell you what's on your list after I've looked, so you know what the crew is in for.
